Nurse Practitioner Laura Nielsen, FNP-BC, the newest addition to our team, says working for Cardiology Associates of Michigan is like a dream come true.

“I have a strong passion for cardiology and for patient care,” she said. “I love educating my patients on their conditions; it truly makes me feel like I am making a difference in their lives. Being a part of this amazing team feels like the perfect fit for me.”

And we couldn’t agree more!

As an Advanced Practice Provider, Laura plays an integral role at our cardiology offices. She is available to answer questions, test and evaluate patients’ symptoms, and educate patients about how to manage their symptoms with a goal of helping them improve their quality of life.

Specifically, she may:

• Conduct histories, physical exams, and post-hospital follow-up appointments

• Order lab work, X-rays, and other tests

• Help patients manage chronic conditions like heart disease, heart failure, peripheral vascular disease, atrial fibrillation, hypertension, and dyslipidemia

• Make referrals to specialists or other services

• Prescribe medications

Laura has a Bachelor of Science degree from Oakland University and a Master of Science in Nursing with a focus in family nurse practitioner from Purdue University in Indiana. She is certified in basic life support, in advanced cardiovascular life support, and as a HeartMath trainer.

Laura has served as a nurse for nearly 12 years. For six of those years, she worked in the cardiac telemetry unit at St. John Hospital in Detroit, and she worked in the cardiac cath lab at Beaumont Hospital in Grosse Pointe for three. Prior to joining the CAM team, she spent another three years in a management role at St. John.
